Carrageenan

MSC has been producing carrageenan since 1974 and now we are exporting carrageenans to Europe, USA, Japan and southeast Asia. Our main products are extra pure kappa carrageenan regular mesh and fine mesh for meat, dairy and dessert jelly. For dessert jelly, we are also supplying co-extractecd hybrid of kappa carrageenan & mannan as a base gelling agent.

Carrageenan is a high molecualar weight liner polysaccharide consisted of repeating galactose units, and 3,6 anhydrogalactose(3,6-AG), both sulfated and non sulfated, joined by alternating 1-3, 1-4 glycosidic linkages.
The Rhodophyceae plants approved as sources for extracts used in food contain various amounts of three types of carrageenan known as kappa, iota and lambda. The primary differences which infulences the properties of the types of the carrageenan are the number and position of the ester sulfate groups on the repeating galactose units.
